Overview

This category is available to CPAs, whether current or previously certified/licensed. Regular Members enjoy discounts on CPE, publications and AICPA Conferences and may apply for our specialized interest sections and credentials.

Full, voting members are also eligible to apply for committee service, for a seat on the AICPA Council and/or for a member seat on the Board of Directors and to vote in AICPA member ballots.

Requirements

Apply for this category if:

  • Either you hold now or previously held* a valid CPA certificate or license
  • You have passed the US Uniform Certified Public Accountancy Examination (US CPA Exam)

*Note: Individuals whose CPA certificates/licenses were revoked for disciplinary reasons are not eligible for membership.

OR you have completed the requirements for CPA licensure as defined by the Uniform Accountancy Act (UAA), but you have never been licensed. Click here for the UAA Application >>

Associate Membership Overview

This category is available to individuals who have passed the Uniform CPA Exam and have not been certified or licensed. Associate Members enjoy discounts on CPE, publications and AICPA Conferences and may apply for our specialized interest sections. .

Requirements

Apply for this category if: You have passed the CPA Exam, and have not yet achieved your CPA certificate/license.

Education: You have met the educational requirements to sit for the Uniform CPA Examination.

Professional Conduct: You agree to abide by the AICPA Bylaws and Code of Professional Conduct.

Apply for this category if:
You are a full, regular member of one of the following organizations:

  • Australia - Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA)
  • Canada - Chartered Professional Accountants Canada (CPA)
  • England and Wales - Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
  • Germany - Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer in Deutschland e.V. (IDW)
  • Hong Kong - Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA)
  • Ireland - Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI)
  • Japan - Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (JICPA)
  • Mexico - Instituto Mexicano de Contadores Publicos (IMCP)
  • New Zealand - New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA)
  • Scotland - Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS)
  • South Africa - South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA)

Professional Licensure: You hold a valid non-U.S. accounting credential from one of the above professional organizations, governmental entity or similar accountancy body approved by the AICPA Board of Directors and do not hold a CPA certificate issued by a U.S. jurisdiction. U.S. CPA certificate holders may be eligible for our regular membership category.

You are welcome to apply for the Non-CPA Associate membership if you meet one of the criteria below. As a Non-CPA Associate, you enjoy all the benefits of membership, together with eligibility to join one or more of our specialized interest sections to support your work and career development in the financial and accounting fields.

Requirements


Apply for this category if:
You meet one of the following criteria and have not passed the Uniform CPA exam or the International Qualification Exam:

  • You are an owner of, or a professional staff member employed by, a certified public accounting firm licensed to practice public accountancy in any U.S. jurisdiction and which includes at least one AICPA regular voting member as an owner or employee of such firm.
  • You are employed by any U.S. or non-U.S. college or university in a full time business or accounting educator role.
  • You are a corporate or government finance professional under the supervision of, or sponsored by, a regular voting member of the AICPA.*
  • You have management or governance responsibilities with respect to an organization that is served by an industry-specific membership section of the AICPA as established by Council.
  • You are eligible to obtain an AICPA credential, but don't qualify for regular voting AICPA membership or any other Associate category.


* When applying under the third condition above, please provide the name and membership number of a current regular voting member willing to sponsor your application. Sponsoring a finance professional is an affirmation by the member that the applicant is employed in a business, government, a non-profit organization, or in a consulting or law firm.

CPA Exam Candidate Membership Overview

You are welcome to apply for the CPA Exam Candidate Affiliate membership category if you intend to sit for or are in the process of sitting for the Uniform Certified Public Accountancy Examination (the US CPA Exam).

Requirements


Apply for this category if:
You are a graduate of a domestic or non-U.S. college or university and one of the following is true regarding your completion of the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination:

  • You intend to study for the exam.
  • You are scheduled to take the exam.
  • You are in the process of sitting for the exam.

Membership Time Limit: Membership in the CPA Exam Candidate Affiliate category is available for a maximum of 5 years from joining, or until you pass the Uniform CPA Examination or qualify for another membership category, whichever comes first. Upon passing the exam, you may then apply to join the Associate category.
